Having Fun With Virtual Games

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gary_Sonnenberg]Gary Sonnenberg
You can have lots of fun with your shiny, new iOS gadget - either your iPhone or iPad. You already knew that, but were you aware that there are many fun games with virtual boards that you can play on an iPhone or iPad? Let's take a look at a few of the best of them.
You can choose classic, old games such as chess, checkers, crokinole, and backgammon. You might enjoy modern classics like The Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Carcassonne.
The Settlers of Catan is one of the oldest (published in 1995) and best-known board games often called designer or German or Euro games. You collect resource cards, indirectly based on the roll of the dice, to build roads and construct buildings on the isle of Catan. You use your trading skills to gather resources you need to win while thwarting your opponents' plans.
Perhaps you prefer conflict games. Battle and conflict game titles you can choose from include Axis & Allies, Stratego, and Battleline.
Maybe you like games with less confrontation or implied violence. Most tile laying games fit that bill. Some board games for iOS that use the tile laying mechanic are Carcassonne, Kachina, and Ingenious.
Carcassonne introduced the world to the meeple, a small wooden humanoid, who takes on various roles such as knight, thief, farmer, and monk. Carcassonne is a fun game with no board. The "board" is made of cardboard tiles that you place on the table. Thus the "board" expands as the game progresses and is different every time you play. You set your meeples on the tiles to score victory points both during and at the end of the game.
If you enjoy auctions and bidding, you can try Ra, Medici, and Money!
Ra is another designer game based on an Egyptian god theme. Since Ra was the sun god of the ancient Egyptians, you control a few numbered sun tiles with which you do your bidding for other tiles that score victory points when gathered in sufficient numbers. A key to winning this iOS board game is knowing when to force your opponents to use their sun tiles to claim sets of points tiles that aren't all that valuable.
These are just a few of the many iOS board games available for your iPhone and iPad. You can find many others to have fun with, and there will almost certainly be more and more produced in the future.
